In the fall of 2020, Ksienija Syramałot took part in the recording of a video appeal of BSU students and teachers against violence.
Arrested on November 12, 2020, under part 1 of Art. 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (organization or participation in group actions that grossly violate public order). A search was conducted at her place of residence. On November 20, she was charged and from that day, detained in custody.
On May 14, 2021, the trial on “The Student Case” began in the Kastryčnicki District Court in Minsk. 12 people were tried, including Ksienija Syramałot. All were charged under part 2 of Art. 17 (a crime committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy) and part 1 of Art. 342 of the Criminal Code (organization of actions that grossly violate public order or active participation in them).
About a hundred people tried to get to the court to support the political prisoners, but only lawyers, close relatives and employees of the state media were allowed in. Grandmothers were not considered close relatives. Riot police detained 14 people near the courthouse.
On July 16, the judge of the Minsk Soviet Court, Marina Fedorova, announced the verdicts on “The Student Case”. Ksienija Syramałot was sentenced to 2 years and 5 months of imprisonment.
Ksienija Syramałot was recognized as a political prisoner.
She served her sentence and was released on November 30, 2022.
